2. Day
Chichen Itza, Cenote, Mérida
One of the seven modern wonders of the world is the mystical Chichen Itza. We will explore the Temple of Kukulkan, where during the spring and autumn equinoxes it is possible to observe a natural phenomenon, the descent of the feathered serpent, later we will see and explain the principle of the ritual game of Pelota and also see the Temple of the Warriors. In the past, this archaeological site was a great royal city, for this reason, a visit to the Temple of the Warriors cannot be missed among others.
The next stop will be a visit to the cenote, in which it is possible to swim. For the Maya, cenotes were a sacred place as they believed it was the entrance to the underworld. Lunch.
Beautiful and romantic Merida. From the past to the present, this city has been the cultural, economic and social centre of the entire state of Yucatán. During the colonial era, it was home to the owners of sisal plantations. As a result, the place had strong trade links not only with other parts of Mexico but also with Europe itself, as sisal ropes were exported to Europe from the nearby port of Sisal. During the tour we will visit the house of Francisco Montejo, the founder of Merida, which belonged to his direct descendants until the 1980s. We will then go to see the local cathedral, which is rumored to be the oldest cathedral on the American continent. Thanks to the sisal boom, Merida's elite built their own " Champs -Elysées ", the Paseo de Montejo on which residential villas are still located today. We will visit the Museum of Mayan Culture and stroll through the local markets, where it is possible to taste various tropical fruits or buy local Guayabera men's clothing.
Check in at the hotel in Merida.
3. Day
Uxmal, Campeche
One of the most important cities of the so-called classical period is Uxmal. During the tour of this site you will be able to observe the construction of the pyramids in the so-called Puuc style, which was characterized by a concern for how the building looked on the outside but not much emphasis on the culture of living inside. During our tour you will have the opportunity to see the magician's pyramid, which has been rebuilt 5 times thanks to the Mayan "century". Then we will see the Temple of the Nuns, we will continue by climbing the Gran Pyramid and we definitely can't miss the climb to the Royal Palace from where there is a beautiful view of the whole archaeological site.
The west coast of the peninsula completes a jewel among colonial cities: the city of Campeche is one of the most important Spanish cities in Mexico. From here, ships sailed to Spain filled with precious raw materials such as gold, silver, jade, cocoa among others, making it a rewarding target for pirates. After repeatedly sacking the city, the Spaniards began building an elaborate system of walls and bastions to protect the port from pirates.
Check in at the hotel in Campeche and evening sightseeing.
4. Day
Palenque, Misolha, Agua Azul
After breakfast departure to Palenque. Palenque is considered the most beautiful Mayan city of the Classic period. At the foot of the mountains and surrounded by lush jungle, this place creates an atmosphere of mystery. Other notable buildings include the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Cross and the Royal Palace. Tour the museum with the sarcophagus of King Pakal, followed by return to the hotel. On the way to the heart of the Mayan civilization we visited, we will stop at the Agua Azul and Misol-Ha waterfalls. The cascading waterfalls of Agua Azul are special because during the day, due to the high degree of calcification of the water, the colour of the water changes from turquoise blue to a deep blue-green colour. The peculiarity of the Misol-Ha waterfalls is that at the bottom of the waterfall there is an entrance to a cave in which there is another smaller waterfall. In the evening arrival to the hotel in Palenque.
Return to Palenque.
